MS Outlook 2010 - multiple instances

Some MS Outlook users are not very happy with the way Outlook handles multiple mailboxes. Others might need to have 2 or more mailboxes displayed simultaneously.

Outlook 2007 and 2010 support multiple instances, but they don’t handle multiple profiles very well. So if you create multiple Mail profiles and select the option “prompt for a profile to be used”, Outlook will prompt you, but only for the first instance. If you use the switch /profiles, again, Outlook will prompt only once.

Luckily, ExtraOutlook is still available and works well with both Outlook 2007 and 2010, just as it worked with Outlook 2003.

Create a new profile for the target user/mailbox in Control Panel > Mail > Profiles.

Create a new shortcut and set the target to: %path to Extra Outlook%\ExtraOutlook.exe "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14\outlook.exe" /profile "the target profile username"
